South Carolina’s 3Day Breast Cancer Event

Helping those in need

LoCo Motion is the signature fundraising event for Carolina Cups, a 501c(3) non-profit public charity dedicated to funding breast cancer education, screening, treatment, and clinical research.

LoCo Motion raises money via event registrations, corporate sponsorships, and outright donations.

Since its inaugural event in 2011, LoCo Motion has donated more than $200,000 to cover mammograms, biopsies, and live-saving surgeries to local residents.

Our by-laws require that 75% of its annual revenues be donated to local and regional providers. The rest of the dollars are donated to national partners.

Some of our recipients include:
  • The Medical University of South Carolina/Hollings Cancer Center
  • Beaufort Memorial Hospital Foundation/Keyserling Cancer Center
  • Beaufort Jasper Hampton Comprehensive Health Services
  • Bluffton & Hilton Head Volunteers in Medicine
  • The Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL
  • Northside Hospital in Atlanta, GA
  • The American Cancer Society

LoCo Motion has committed to a $150,000 fundraising goal for 2016 and hopes to reach this by attracting a record-breaking 1600 registrants to the Lowcountry for LoCo Motion 2016.

The History

In 2009, local resident Laura Morgan envisioned an event that could raise money for breast cancer and also create an economic impact for the economy. Ultimately called LoCo Motion (because a third goal was to get the Lowcountry in shape), the event was initially going to be a fundraiser for a national breast cancer foundation.

Ultimately, Morgan founded the Carolina Cups non-profit organiazation so that the funds would remain local to the region. While Morgan is no longer on the board of Carolina Cups, she continues to produce the LoCo Motion event, passing every dime of proceeds to the nonprofit organization and other non-profit breast care providers.
